Marriott Bonvoy has just launched its newest promotion on purchased points, which is only the program’s second such offer of the year. While it’s not for everyone, it has the potential to represent a good deal, so let’s go over the details.

FYI I see a 40% bonus, which is slightly worse than a 30% discount. YMMV. I'm a Bonvoy Platinum and have the Brilliant Card and the AmEx Biz Card.
I’m getting 35% bonus points. No for me. Would go for it if mines 30% off
What is the point of paying with BONVOY points when (A) certain hotels dont allow any bookings with points at the time of year one wishes to travel to that destination (B) only the lowest category or lowest 2 categories of rooms are available for booking with points.
While this is not "across the board" it is often enough that it makes it pointless (for me) to chase BONVOY points
Ben, I love the blog. But how can you report on Bonvoy devaluation yet still maintain your value of Bonvoy points at 0.7 cents. When was the last time you updated that?
What a fantastic deal! Buy Bonvoy points for 0.8 cents. redeem them for 0.5 cents!
Pay to get Bonvoyed? Nope.
Regarding percentage: I guess
50% as Ben is Ambassador
45% me as Titanium Member
40% the other comment as Platinum Member
Bonvoy values I see are typically 0.5 to 0.6 cents per points.
Perfect seit Jahren.
I see the 90-day limit for accounts without activity has been increased to 1 year. I guess that stops people farming purchases as easily.
When you are literally redeeming points for 0.5 cents on average. The math doesn’t math.
Worth it? Nope. Absolutely not.
The only utility here is transferring to United. You could buy 302,250 Marriott points for $2,437.50 and then get 150k United points (and have 2,250 bonvoy points left over). So you're buying United points at 1.625cpp. And that's better than United's recent promo. And I suppose you could wait for the yearly Marriott/United 25% transfer bonus if they do that again next year.
So... some limited utility there.
A number of people here talk in absolutes.
It is not an absolute thing, it depends.
Some high value resorts clock in at over 1cpp, ie in the Maldives or Hawaii.
It is also good for thing where there is really high demand U of M’s homecoming or as I have mentioned in other places a night at the airport in Cairo after the eclipse next year.
But a stay at an airport Courtyard most of the time, no.
Like most things in the points game you have to be smart and selective.
