The Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card (review) is one of the most valuable hotel credit cards out there, thanks to all the great perks the card offers.

Just got burned on a stay recently at a qualified Hilton Buena Vista palace in Orlando for a stay from June 29th to June 30th expecting to earn the unused credit for first half of the year where it would reset to new $200 credit from July 1st for 2nd half.
After checking out from our stay on June 30th they actually processed the credit card charge on July 1st so the credit came through for the 2nd half of year thereby losing out on the first half year credit. Tried calling Amex as well as the hotel to try to fix this neither will budge on anything. Lesson learned is for such a borderline stay either book in advance (I didnt, only booked it on day of checkin) and go for non refundable rate so credit card immediately charged.
“ Second of all, if you don’t stay at an eligible Hilton resort at least once every six months, some Hilton resorts will let you complete a credit card authorization form in advance to authorize a certain credit to your room.”
Insert my usual comment about how this is unnecessarily complicated. Just purchase a room rate where the first night is pre-charged. Make reservation during Jan-June, stay at hotel July-Dec, boom. Full credit utilized.
$200 annual airline fee ($50 each quarter): buy a $50 airline (any airline works) gift card each three months.
$400 annual Hilton resort ($200 each six months). Visit Vegas twice a year. Almost any Hilton hotel in Vegas qualifies for the resort credit.
Just finished a stay at the Rome Cavalieri. Wasn't sure if the local city tax counted, and I needed a few more bucks to use up the credit (not staying at any other qualified hotel this year), so ended up getting a bottle of wine from the bar and added it to my room. Enjoying the bottle now in my hotel in Tuscany. 🙂
I had to write in to Amex to get the credit this 1st half of the year. My hotel was on the list for the 200 credit and Amex rep informed me it's not their problem the hotel charged me incorrectly through a different business name associated with the property. It took 30 days but a letter with my hotel folio and their website screenshot with the hotel got them to issue the credit.
I was hoping to read about making yourself an AU on P2's card just in case you're going solo. Then you can max them both out without both of you having to be there.
sometimes hotels bill under a corporate or alternate business name, which can cause Amex's automated systems to miss qualifying charges. Persisting with documentation—like your folio and a screenshot—can help resolve it.
I dont see how Aspire is "easy to justify" with all the hoops, hurdles, and GOTCHAs!
The Hilton Aspire card is far too much work to justify the fee. Give us credits good at any Hilton, restore Priority Pass and increase the multiplier if they want cardholders to use the card to buy airfare.
The biggest problem is ongoing devaluation of Hilton points.
For “purchases must be charged to a room, so don’t pay directly for a meal or spa service with the card” I understand that may be the official terms, but, in-practice, has anyone had it work without a stay? Also, I once got the resort credit at a Waldorf that wasn’t listed.
I have a "jumping through the hoops fatigue". And i am sensing a lot of other people do as well.
We subscribed to these cards as it upgraded our travels. Now they downgrade our spare time.
The HH Aspire card is the one card I have that has these hurdles. Somewhat inconvenient, but a calendar full of reminders keeps things in order - and makes it a great card to have. That said, one is all I can stomach.
It's easy to use if you actually stay at a hilton resort.
If you don't, it's hard to use the credits. There are hacks and workarounds on the interwebs (like reddit or flyertalk), but its all YMMV. most of them still works.
Do daily resort charges count as an eligible charge? I'm currently staying at an eligible resort and forgot about the resort charge since I'm paying cash for this stay. If so, my $200 credit would cover most of the self-park fee and resort charge for my stay.
Ben - please note as we were stung by this last year. There is small print legalise that says the $200 credit is based on WHEN the hotel processes it to AMEX. We stayed at a resort om the night of the 29th of June and checked out the 30th. The cost was not posted to our card until July 1 and so we lost the January 1 - June 30 benefit and it was applied against our July 1 - December 31 benefit instead. Don't plan on using it in the last day or two of June or December as you may be greatly disappointed.
Several people mentioning the hassle and hurdles to get all the benefits from the card. Probably have a point when it comes to the resort credits if you live in a state that doesn't have any around them. Makes sense. I guess I should consider myself fortunate that I not only live in Florida, but in a spot in Florida where I can literally drive to almost all the resorts Florida has in just a matter of hours. I have tons of resort hotels to choose from and never have a problem using credits every 6 months, even if we have to just do some kind of "staycation" at the beach to use them. That being said, I still haven't had too much trouble using the credit while traveling, such as Waikiki, Sorrento, Okinawa, Odawara etc.. The card can give great value if you can use all benefits. Last year, after using 2 certs earned by wife and I at Sowaka Kyoto, our benefits from just 1 of our cards card last year, over $1,000 a night hotel +$400 resort credits +$200 travel credit + free breakfast at various hotels thanks to diamond status $300 roughly, maybe more (especially at overseas hotels not the paltry F&B credit given in US) + semi decent upgrades $300 roughly, I garnered well over $2,000 in benefits. If you can use up all the benefits, the card is well worth the fee.
