I wrapped up a fun and busy few days at my first ABA Forum on Air & Space Law, and wanted to share some highlights and takeaways while they’re fresh in my mind: 🚀 First - The American Bar Association opening this forum to law students and young professionals is incredibly meaningful for those trying to find their way through space and into the space industry. 😆 But seriously — opportunities to strategically and intentionally identify key players, learn from experienced professionals, and build meaningful connections are rare. Attending this forum was absolutely worthwhile for me. ✈️ Second - United Airlines definitely left an impression on me after an exclusive tour of their flight training center. At the same time, I was really impressed by the perspectives Frontier Airlines brought to the forum, with a significant presence across several expert panels. It was also great to reconnect with former colleagues from my legal internship and meet plenty of new people along the way. Lastly, I haven’t attended too many legal-specific forums, but I’ve noticed (for me at least) that professional networking can sometimes feel awkward and intimidating. After meeting and connecting with at least a dozen people at this event alone, I can confidently say that my experience was overwhelmingly positive. People were helpful, welcoming, and genuinely eager to connect over shared interests and passions. I’m sharing this especially for the students and young professionals in my network who have told me they’re hesitant about attending events like these. We’ve discussed this over Zoom class meetings, and my offer still stands: I'm happy to be a networking buddy. I was fortunate that this forum was local to me, but now that I know about it, I’ll be on the lookout for future events. 🙏🏽Thanks to everyone who connected with me during the forum, and don’t be a stranger! I’ll be completing my legal certificate program this December, and hope to lean on some of my connections to help me navigate my future. #policymaking #spacelaw #aviation #aba #legal #flightsimulator #americanbarassociation

  • Twenty-five years after the creation of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the legal and regulatory framework governing aviation security continues to expand in response to evolving threats, including physical and cybersecurity risks, cargo threats, and emerging technologies. Yet questions remain regarding the scope and effectiveness of TSA’s authorities, the appropriate balance between regulation and risk-based oversight, and the role of industry as a security partner. This panel will examine whether TSA's current statutory, regulatory, and enforcement authorities, as well as how it deploys those authorities, are sufficient to address modern security challenges; whether additional legislative action is needed; and how public-private partnerships, including programs such as the Screening Partnership Program and Gold+, fit into the future of aviation security.
