‘Carrie’
Any tongue that rises against Mike Flanagan shall fail. Like many people who hesitantly clicked “play” on Prime Video’s new Carrie series, I had my doubts coming in; the Stephen King thriller is a story that has been told time and time again, and often not well. Thankfully, we can trust Flanagan to usher in a new iteration of the story that moves the narrative to modern times without compromising the intensity and the horror of the original source material. Carrie feels fresh, dark, eerie, and (at times) hard to watch, which is exactly how it’s meant to be. It also helps that moving the show to the social media era elevates the terror of what this young girl felt. He’s done it again.
