  • ✈️ Cutting emissions while keeping flying affordable. That’s what ETS should help deliver. 🌱 The EU ETS review should accelerate investment in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). At least 500 million SAF allowances are needed to close the SAF cost gap and match support given to other sectors - that's over four times more than the Commission’s proposed 110 million. The Draghi report has identified aviation as the most difficult and expensive transport sector to cut carbon emissions. Europe must now put its money where its policies are. More SAF allowances are the way to do it: helping decarbonise, while keeping flying affordable for passengers and protecting competitiveness. #EUETS #SAF #EuropeanAviation

  • ⏳ Passengers flying to Europe deserve a smooth journey, not waits of up to five hours at passport control. The EU’s Entry/Exit System (EES) continues to cause excessive queues at Schengen borders, resulting in missed flights and connections while placing avoidable strain on airport, airline and border control staff. 📋 Airlines for Europe (A4E) and ACI EUROPE have put forward a 6-point plan to tackle the structural issues behind the disruption. This includes better biometric processes, improved pre-registration, wider use of automated border control and flexibility when queues become excessive. ✈️ Secure borders and efficient crossings must go hand in hand. Europe can do better. 🔗 Read our joint statement here: https://lnkd.in/ea2DPHpv #EES #Schengen #EuropeanAviation

  • European airlines have collectively achieved a lot together. We compete while sharing far more than what sets us apart. Together, we help keep Europe a highly connected continent, where millions can access affordable air travel. We cannot take this for granted in a rapidly changing world. A4E brought together CEOs of European airline groups to discuss what can be done today to stay competitive, keep flying affordable and grow connectivity. ✈️ 🌱 Ensure ETS supports more affordable and available SAF to decarbonise 🌍 Level the global regulatory playing field 🛫 Modernise EU air traffic to meet growing demand and ease pressure on Europe's capacity-constrained airspace Thank you to the journalists who joined us! #EuropeanAviation #Connectivity #ETS

Europe is at a crossroad when it comes to aviation. Decision makers across Europe have the choice to: 💶 put the money where the policies are 📈acknowledge that aviation growth is good for Europe ✈️nurture connectivity and affordable air travel for all 🌍 be part of the transition to net zero Europeans need and want to fly and Eurocontrol forecasts an average +2.1% annual growth by 2032. I often get told that airlines and more generally Europe's aviation don't need support: demand hasn't dropped, we are global leaders in technology for aircraft and air traffic management, passengers can choose between different airlines, destinations, routes and business models... I don't think taking our strengths for granted is good policy. In my 20+ years of EU public affairs, I find that many of the competitiveness challenges we are faced with today are exactly because Europe took our strengths for granted, rather than investing in nurturing them. Draghi singled out aviation as the most expensive transport sector to decarbonise: €61 B every year as of 2030. The cumulative bill for sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) is estimated at €768B. Last year only 11% of aviation's ETS payments were used to support SAF uplift. A mere 13% of aviations' ETS payments are allocated to SAF in the ETS revision proposals. It's time to put our money where our policies are. Passengers and the industry cannot be expected to carry the full cost of this transition alone. If they are left to do so, decision makers cannot expect to maintain the same levels of choice, connectivity and affordability that we enjoy today. My thanks to my hosts that facilitated exchanges around these topics during the EU Transport #ConnectingEurope days and the Euronews Travel & Tourism Summit earlier this week. #CED2026 Airlines for Europe (A4E)

  • ✈️ Getting aviation to net zero takes more than targets. It takes commitment, partnership and crucially, investment. The EU ETS review is a chance to get these things right, helping aviation cut emissions while staying competitive and keeping Europe connected. 👉 Swipe through for the joint aviation sector's seven priorities. 📄 Read the open letter to Ursula von der Leyen, European Commission: https://lnkd.in/eD_Jg-V5 🤝 With our #Destination2050 partners: European Regions Airline Association, ACI EUROPE, Aerospace, Security and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD) and CANSO. #EUETS #SustainableAviation

  • ✈️ One country’s ATC strike shouldn’t put Europe’s journeys on hold. You might not have noticed, but Italian air traffic controllers held a four-hour strike yesterday. Italy has put in place sensible measures to limit disruption to passengers, protecting flights passing through its skies during busy travel periods. Why shouldn’t passengers across the EU benefit from similar protections? 🛫 Allow most flights to pass over the affected country, around 80–90%, to help prevent delays spreading across Europe. 🛬 Keep enough departures and arrivals running too, so passengers travelling to and from that country stay connected. One shouldn’t have to come at the expense of the other in these cases either. Let’s extend these safeguards across the EU and make sure a strike in one country doesn’t bring Europe’s connectivity and passengers to a halt. #AirTrafficControl #EuropeanAviation

As negotiations on EU261 seem like a distant memory, another important question remains open: how do we protect passengers in the context of #multimodal journeys? While this is certainly a commendable objective, there is something fundamental that should be considered before that: how do we ensure that #passengers can actually benefit from better integration between air, rail, bus and other modes of transport? The limited availability of integrated multimodal offers reflects the significant operational, commercial and legal complexity involved in combining different modes of transport. Any discussion about passenger protection in this context should therefore start by ensuring that passengers can properly benefit from these services, without creating additional complexity or compliance burdens that could discourage the development of this business model. For a multimodal passenger-rights framework to be successful, it should be based on some basic principles: 1️⃣ Link passenger rights to clear contractual relationships; 2️⃣ Exclude independently purchased separate tickets from the scope of the Regulation; 3️⃣ Clarify the definition of “combined multimodal tickets”; 4️⃣ Ensure that intermediaries remain responsible for refunding the intermediary fees they have charged; 5️⃣ Assign obligations to the party that has the relevant information and the ability to fulfil them. Airlines for Europe (A4E), European Regions Airline Association and International Air Transport Association (IATA) have worked together on their Recommendations on the Enforcement of Passenger Rights in the Context of Multimodal Journeys. You can learn more about the recommendations at the link below. Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU 2026 EU Transport European Parliament

✈️ The #ConnectingEurope by Air event at Brussels Airport launched a busy first day of Connecting Europe Days! 🗨️ In his keynote speech, Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas stressed that aviation is much more than a means of transport for Europe – it is a strategic asset for our connectivity, competitiveness and global leadership. As we prepare the new EU Aviation and Aeronautics Strategy, our focus is on building a sector that is cleaner, more digital and resilient – while continuing to attract talent, investment and new ideas. In a fireside chat chaired by #EUTransport Director-General Magda Kopczyńska, one message stood out: the upcoming Strategy will focus on creating a competitive & resilient environment for the EU aviation industry, while outlining how European aviation can best continue to serve passengers, businesses and the environment. This means preserving affordable connectivity, keeping EU airlines, airports & manufacturers competitive, plus leading decarbonisation efforts and driving innovation in next-generation aviation technologies. 🛡️ Future-proofing the sector also means enhancing aviation security and resilience in the face of crises, and adapting to military mobility needs through increased dual-use capabilities.  Let’s work together for an EU aviation sector that keeps Europe connected and competitive. 💪 #CED2026 Aerospace, Security and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD) - Airlines for Europe (A4E) - European Defence Agency - European Air Transport Command - EUROCONTROL
