Sydney Sweeney revealed to be related to Marilyn Monroe

Sydney Sweeney and Marilyn Monroe are ninth cousins, once removed.
The “Euphoria” star, 29, has often been compared to the late icon, and a new study by MyHeritage shows they’re actually related.
According to the website’s genealogical research, the actresses are related through their fathers. Sweeney’s dad, Steven Sweeney, and Monroe’s dad, Charles Stanley Gifford, are both descendants of an early settler in Sandwich, Massachusetts, named Ezra Perry.
The blond bombshells’ relationship is tenuous — Perry lived in the 1600s.
Sweeney has made her admiration for Monroe — who died in 1962 at age 36 — known. In February, she sported a vintage dress inspired by one worn by the “Some Like It Hot” star at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.
The figure-hugging Ceil Chapman design features three-quarter-length sleeves that star off the shoulders and ruching details along the waist and arms.
Monroe memorably wore a look-alike slinky dress on the April 7, 1952, cover of Life magazine.

Sweeney also previously channeled the Old Hollywood star for the premiere of “The Housemaid” in December 2025 in a custom Galia Lahav dress that resembled Monroe’s iconic white halter dress from 1955’s “The Seven Year Itch.”
A month prior, the “Christy” star rocked a bold bob styled in soft waves at the Governors Awards red carpet, recalling Monroe’s “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” era.
A source told Page Six last month that even Sweeney’s boyfriend, mogul Scooter Braun, thinks she’s “the modern Marilyn Monroe.”
Braun, 45, is fully supportive of his girlfriend’s risqué roles, another source told us in May.
“Scooter has absolutely no issue with Sydney’s more provocative scenes in ‘Euphoria’ or any of the work she does as an actress,” the insider said. “He fully understands that it’s part of her job and respects how dedicated she is to her craft.”
And much like Monroe, Sweeney is no stranger to controversy thanks to her hypersexualized image — such as in her stripped-down sports betting ad for Novig.
But Sweeney is making no apologies.
She responded to the backlash last month by posting even more sultry snaps of the ad campaign on Instagram. She also shared images of several athletes — including Serena Williams, Ronda Rousey, Karl-Anthony Towns and Jason Kelce — who have posed sans clothing for different covers of ESPN’s Body Issue.
